big picture

In 2001 the Swatch group decided they could no longer guarantee non Swatch group watch companies the use of there Lémania movements. There also no longer is the name Cosmonaute on the dial. Again in the history of the Cosmonaute we stand on a threshold. As one can imagine there are Cosmonaute and Navitimer enthusiasts that claim that after 1979 the models ceased to be the "real” Navitimer.
There also are enthusiasts that are more purist and lay the line somewhere between 1968-74 when the movement changed to a Valjoux or Breitling 11, 12 or 14.
In 2001 we see an increasing interest and discussion surrounding the Lémania powered Cosmonaute. Again there are enthusiasts that have laid there line and we see the value of the Cosmonaute II and the Old Navitimer Cosmonaute rise.
We are heading for a new threshold.
Only time can tell what will be the next step.
