History records: Introduction of the new generation of Cosmonaute with the Lémania movement.
Ernst Schneider founded the new Breitling company in the early eighties and the Cosmonaute once again was back in production. There was a new Breiling logo.
They where fitted with a Lémania hand-wound movement.
Although they have the looks of the early models they no longer have the vintage look from the sixties and seventies. Mainly because the moving part of the slide rule is no longer completely on the same level as the dial but also because of the shallow curved sapphire crystal.
This gives the watch a real eighties and nineties look.
Over the years the model underwent all kind of technical changes and was revised and renamed but basically the design and movement stayed the same up untill the Cosmonaute Flyback.

History records: To memo rate the fact that 35 years ago Scott Carpenter orbited the earth while wearing a 24 hour version navitimer the Cosmonaute Scott Carpenter was produced in 1996. It no doubt has a stunning backside but the dial doesn't give me the feeling I'm travelling back through time nor space for that matter.
There are sources that claim Scott had a hand in the design of the 24-hour Navitimer in 1962. I personally think that if he had a hand in the design of the 1996 Scott Carpenter Cosmonaute it would have looked something like this (check rollover image on your right;-)
Well maybe a nice idea when Breitling celebrates the fifties anniversary of this space flight in 2012.
