I remember the ads the day after they landed on the moon. "Make yourself popular on the moon smoke this or wear that."
Omega also had some ads.
Omega -the first watch worn on the moon-salutes the men who took it there.(1669)
To be followed by: Tested in Switzerland. Tested in Houston. Tested on the Moon.(1972)

It's a companies wet dream to have all this free publicity. To be the first watch in space, worn by an American astronaut, sure paved the path of success for the Navitimer.
We see Breitlings reaction to this space flight in there ads but also in naming the 24-hour Navitimer Cosmonaute. (French for Cosmonaut).
The name Cosmonaute is officially registered by Breitling in 1961.
I still find it a bit odd (although I love the name Cosmonaute) that they choice Cosmonaute.
In these cold war days one would think that a watch worn by an American Astronaut would have been named Astronaute and not Cosmonaute which was used by the Sovjets if they talked about there space pioneers.

By convention, a space traveller employed by the Russian Aviation and Space Agency or its Soviet predecessor is called a cosmonaut.
"Cosmonaut" is an Anglicization of the Russian word KOCMOHaBT (kosmonavt), which in turn derives from the Greek words kosmos, meaning "universe" and nautes, meaning "sailor".
In the USA, a space traveller is called an astronaut. The term derives of the Greek words ástron ("star") and nautes, ("sailor").
On March 14, 1995 astronaut Norman Thagard became the first American to ride to space on-board a Russian launch vehicle, arguably becoming the first American cosmonaut in the process.

After it was named Cosmonaute to commemorate Scott Carpenter's three revolutions of the earth we see that it is not a consistency. In years to follow we again see 24-Hour Navitimers with only Navitimer written on it's dial (or nothing for that matter).
To me this only indicates that in these days things where not as standardized as they are nowadays.
We see the same thing with the Glycine Airmans and there variety over the years.
